Searching for loft boarding in Rainham, Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester, Sittingbourne, Maidstone, Gravesend or Northfleet throws up plenty of options, so it helps to know what a proper job looks like. Raised loft flooring sits on a timber frame above the joists, which keeps the insulation at its full depth instead of crushing it flat. That matters, because squashed insulation stops doing its job, and a floor laid straight onto the joists often leaves the loft colder and the rooms below harder to heat.
Every house is different, so the first step is a proper look in your loft. We check the joist spacing and condition, measure the usable area around the tank, chimney and any wiring, and work out exactly where the boarding can safely go. On a new build the joists tend to be lighter, so the raised system matters even more there. Once the floor is down we can fit a loft ladder, install or upgrade the loft hatch so getting up there is easier, and add lighting so you are not hunting through boxes with a torch. Pick your town above for the local detail, including the postcodes we cover.
How much storage space will I actually get back?
It depends on the shape of your roof and what is already up there, such as tanks, pipework and cables. Most lofts give a good run of usable boarded floor down the middle where the headroom is best. We will tell you honestly what area is workable before any work starts.
Do you fit the ladder and hatch as well?
Yes. We install loft ladders and we install or upgrade loft hatches, so the access matches the new floor. A wider hatch and a solid, safe ladder make a boarded loft far easier to use day to day.
