The job
This loft in Chattenden, on the Hoo Peninsula, started as loose insulation with a single crawl board and a small square hatch. There was nowhere safe to stand and nothing could be stored.
We boarded 30m² of the roof space, cutting the boards neatly around every truss web and running the floor right up to the blockwork gable wall. The hatch opening was made longer and lined, and a folding timber loft ladder now drops straight down to the landing.
A loft load warning notice is fixed inside the hatch, so anyone using the space knows what the floor is designed to carry.
